What are the two mountains at the origin of the name of the city? These would be the two highest peaks that travelers and Native Americans could see from the Montreal side of Lac des Deux-Montagnes, namely Calvaire Mountain (190 m high) and its twin, Saint- Joseph-du-Lac (peaking at 220 m).
In a hundred years, the population of Deux-Montagnes has increased more than 60 times! When it was founded (under the name of Saint-Eustache-sur-le-Lac), the municipality had less than 300 permanent residents. They are now more than 18,000.
