14,600+ dishwashers repaired in 2025

Our technicians diagnose and repair the most common problems: a dishwasher that won’t drain, is leaking, or shows an error code. A CAA-Quebec Recommended company, we offer a one-year warranty on parts and labour for every repair.

Why choose Service 2000 for your dishwasher repair?

A broken dishwasher piles up fast: dirty dishes stacking up, a cluttered kitchen, an already busy day. When you book your appointment, the technician notes the brand, model, and symptom you describe, then arrives with the parts most likely needed — resolving the issue on the first visit in most cases. The diagnostic is billed at a flat rate, no matter how long it takes to identify the problem, and every repair is covered by a one-year warranty on parts and labour.

It’s one of the appliances we get the most service requests for. We work on all major brands, including Bosch, Miele, Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung.

Top 4 most common dishwasher problems

Based on our 2025 service history, here are the problems our technicians see most often.

1. Dishwasher won’t drain

The most common cause is the drain pump, in about 64% of cases.

Water remains at the bottom of the tub after the cycle. The drain pump is the most common cause, followed by a blocked drain hose or a dirty filter — cleaning sometimes solves the problem without a part replacement.

2. Dishwasher leaking

The leak most often comes from the drain hose or the door gasket.

A cracked or poorly secured drain hose is the most common cause (about 31% of cases), followed by a worn door gasket that lets water escape during the cycle (24%). The drain pump, filter, or water inlet valve can also be at fault depending on where the leak is coming from.

3. Error code or control panel fault

Nearly one error code in two is linked to the drain pump.

The code shown indicates where the control detected an issue, without always pinpointing which part is at fault. In our service history, the drain pump accounts for nearly half of all error codes (49%), followed by the drain hose (17%). A diagnostic is still needed before ordering a part.

4. Dishwasher won’t start

The control board and the drain pump are the two most common causes.

On units that refuse to start, the control board (PCB) is at fault in more than a third of cases (36%) — often on older appliances where the part is harder to find. The drain pump (26%), a blocked hose, or the wash motor are the other most common causes.

What happens during a dishwasher repair?

When booking your appointment, please provide the brand, model, serial number, and a description of the symptom. The technician will arrive with the parts most likely needed based on the described problem, in order to resolve the situation on the first visit.

The diagnostic is billed at a flat rate, regardless of how long it takes to identify the problem. Repairs are then quoted using clear labour rates — the cost doesn’t depend on the technician’s individual speed or experience.

Repairing your dishwasher yourself?

Some simple jobs are within reach of a careful, well-equipped user. If you’d like to try the repair yourself, check out our dishwasher parts section. Our specialists can advise you before you place your order. A dishwasher combines water, electricity, and mechanics — improper handling can worsen the problem or create a hazard.

Dishwasher Repair FAQ

My dishwasher isn’t draining anymore. Is this an expensive repair?

Not necessarily. This is one of the most common issues: a clogged filter, a faulty drain pump, or a plumbing issue. The cost depends on the part at fault, which we confirm before starting the work.

Dishes still come out dirty even after a full cycle. What could cause this?

Possible causes include clogged spray arms, a failing circulation pump, a soap dispenser issue, or an inadequate temperature setting.

My dishwasher takes much longer than before to complete a cycle. Is this a sign of a problem?

Yes, this is often linked to a failing internal water heater, a dirty turbidity sensor, or a water pressure issue. A diagnostic confirms the cause.

My dishwasher leaks a bit of water under the door. What should I do?

Stop using it and wipe up the water to avoid damaging the floor. The most common cause is a worn door seal, but a leak can also come from a hose or a pump. A diagnostic confirms the exact source before repair.

My dishwasher won’t start at all, even the lights are off. What should I check before calling?

Check that the door is properly latched and that the appliance is getting power (breaker, outlet). If the problem persists, it’s likely an electrical issue or a control board problem.

My dishwasher makes a loud or grinding noise during the cycle. What usually causes this?

Often a worn motor bearing or an object stuck in the pump. A noise that persists can point to a part that needs replacing before it causes further damage.

My plates and glasses come out with a cloudy white film. Is this repairable or related to hard water?

This is often related to hard water rather than a malfunction. A water softener or an extra rinse can help; if the problem persists, it may point to an issue with the rinse aid dispenser.

My dishwasher smells bad even after a cycle. Should I call a technician?

Not necessarily. Regular maintenance (cleaning the filter, running an empty vinegar cycle) resolves most cases. If the smell persists despite maintenance, it may point to a drainage issue.

Great service! My washer stopped working after my basement was flooded. He was in my area and had an opening, so he came 5 days before my scheduled appointment. He called first to make sure I was available.
