The name Mascouche is inspired by the Algonquin language, maskwa means “bear” and its derivative maskoch means “teddy bear”. The presence of Aboriginal people on the territory dates back more than 3,000 years, according to discoveries on the bank of the Maskouche River, near the current city center.
