Top 5 most common failures on the South Shore
1. Dishwasher with error code or drainage issue
The dishwasher is the appliance our technicians service most frequently on the South Shore. Error codes (14%) and drainage problems (14%) together account for nearly a third of all service calls. Cleaning or replacing the pump and drain hose resolves the issue in the majority of cases.
2. Washer that won’t complete a cycle, is noisy, or leaking
On washers, three symptoms dominate: faulty cycle or mode (14%), noise during spin (12%), and water leak (10%). These three failures account for more than a third of all our service calls on this appliance. Suspension, pump, door seal, or bearing — components our technicians replace regularly on-site.
3. Range no longer heating properly
Incorrect temperature is the dominant symptom on ranges on the South Shore — 25% of service calls. Faulty burners or elements follow at 18%. Together, these two problems account for nearly half of all our range service calls. Bake element, igniter, relay board: straightforward repairs typically resolved in a single visit.
4. Dryer that no longer dries or is making noise
Nearly 20% of our dryer service calls involve a unit that leaves clothes damp after a full cycle. Unusual noise ranks second at 17%. The heating element, thermal fuse, idler pulley, or drum rollers — common parts our technicians carry on the truck.
5. Refrigerator not cooling adequately
In 40% of our refrigerator service calls on the South Shore, temperature is the cause. Leaks (10%), frost buildup (6%), and water/ice dispenser issues (6%) follow. A unit with fluctuating temperature can quickly compromise food safety.

FAQ about home appliance repair on the South Shore
Have questions about appliance repair on the South Shore? Our team is happy to help and guide you through every step.
Can I repair my appliance myself?
In some cases, yes.
Some appliances combine water, electricity, and/or mechanics. A mistake can worsen the problem, create a safety risk, or void the manufacturer’s warranty if a part is mishandled. It’s primarily a decision involving time, tools, and responsibility, feel free to contact us if you’re unsure before attempting a repair.
How much does an appliance repair cost?
The diagnostic fee is a fixed rate that includes the service call.
The exact cost varies depending on your appliance and your area. Call us to find out before booking an appointment. If you choose to go ahead with the repair, the price is set after the diagnostic, parts and labour included.
What’s the wait time for an appointment?
We often respond within 2 business days.
The exact wait time varies based on call volume and parts availability. Contact us to check current availability.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes.
All work performed by our technicians is covered by a limited one-year warranty (parts and labour).
Do you repair all brands?
Yes.
We are an authorized service centre for several manufacturers, which involves specific training and the use of original parts. We also service all other major brands.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
In many cases, especially for a newer or higher-quality appliance, repairing remains more economical and environmentally friendly, since it extends the equipment’s lifespan.
What happens if my appliance can’t be repaired?
If a repair isn’t possible or worthwhile, we’ll let you know clearly so you can consider replacement with confidence. You’ll only pay for the diagnostic time and any applicable travel fees.
What does Bill 29 change for Quebec consumers?
New measures under the Consumer Protection Act aim to make repairs easier by requiring manufacturers to make parts, information, and services more accessible (or to be transparent when they are not), while also regulating their cost. This allows you to make more informed choices and prioritize appliances designed to last and to be repaired.
Can I bring my small appliance to you directly instead of waiting for an in-home technician?
Yes.
For certain small appliances (coffee machine, small wine cooler, etc.), you can drop them off at La Techno-Shop, our drop-off point located at 5353 5e Avenue, Montréal, or at our Laval workshop located at 2285 Michelin Street. It’s more cost-effective than an in-home visit.
